They
welcomed him and fell to their knees when he announced that he was a bass-playing
prophet by the name of ‘Paul The Bass’.
And thus in the months that followed, the band organised themselves, meeting
regularly to practice their belief so that others could learn their faith.
Prophecy took the form of songs and quickly their repertoire grew to include
hymns such as ONE STEP BEYOND, NIGHT BOAT TO CAIRO and OUR HOUSE. With their
instruments, the message was easily recognised by their following, but they
needed a leader, someone to proclaim to the people, someone to break down
the barrier between the chosen ones in BAGGY TROUSERS and their new converts.

And
so the four men, armed with instruments, Paul – guitar
Ian – Drums,
Mark – keyboards
Darren – sax
set out to spread the good word of Madness and embrace new members into
their fold. Their prophecy spread quickly across the land as far as Merthyr
Tydfil where an inn keeper, already teaching the word of Ska to passers
by, came forth to enhance their group.
